He had said 'The Governor threatened me': AKP member takes a step back

It has been reported that AKP Burdur Deputy Adem Korkmaz has withdrawn his application for close protection, which he had made after alleging that Burdur Governor Tülay Baydar Bilgihan had threatened him.

Korkmaz had previously claimed that the Governor's Office wanted to replace water meters used in Burdur's villages and that citizens were being directed to a specific company. Stating that he opposed this practice, Korkmaz had argued that Governor Bilgihan used an expression during the process that he interpreted as a threat against him.

The AKP deputy had alleged that during the meeting in question, Bilgihan said, "I will take the professor away too," and stated that he considered this expression a threat to his personal safety. In his statement, Korkmaz had said, "I have been living with the weight of this for a year. The expression 'I will take away' is there. What am I supposed to understand? Is this a political expression? Who will protect my personal safety?"

While Korkmaz's protection request sparked controversy, former AKP deputy Şamil Tayyar also made an assessment regarding the issue. In a post he made following the incident, Tayyar argued that there was no "death threat" involved and stated that the protection request was "highly exaggerated."
