New Party holds its first closed group meeting in the Grand National Assembly of Turkey: Özel says, 'We are excited'
New Party deputies gathered for their first closed group meeting at the Grand National Assembly of Turkey. Names for parliamentary duties will be determined during the meeting.
New Party deputies gathered for a closed group meeting at the Grand National Assembly of Turkey (TBMM). The meeting, chaired by Chairman Özgür Özel, marked the party's first group meeting in Parliament.
Özel, who arrived at the TBMM at 11:45 AM for the meeting, answered questions from journalists while heading to the group hall. When reminded that this was their first time in the TBMM since the party's establishment, Özel said, “We are excited, of course. Innovation was the demand of our nation, and the New Party was a necessity for our nation. We founded our party in response to the expectations of the people. We have become the main opposition party. There is no other party in our political history that has become the main opposition party upon its establishment. We feel both the excitement and the responsibility of that.” he said.

INITIAL ASSESSMENTS FROM DEPUTIES
Before the closed group meeting, New Party deputies also made statements to the press. Şanlıurfa Deputy Mahmut Tanal expressed his wish that the new party would bring “peace, tranquility, democracy, the rule of law, an impartial and independent press, and an impartial and independent judiciary” to the country.
Tanal, “May God not let us embarrass our 86 million people. We take refuge in God and trust in our nation,” he stated.
Ankara Deputy Tekin Bingöl, when asked, “Are you a candidate for Deputy Speaker of the Parliament?” responded by stating that he was not a candidate. Bingöl said, “The discretion of our Chairman is important. Whatever our Chairman and our colleagues decide.” he said.

Trabzon Deputy Sibel Suiçmez described the new party process as “new hopes, new excitement, and a new determination to work.” Suiçmez stated that they would continue their parliamentary work following the first closed meeting and that they would also be active in the field.
Referring to the statements made by Özel the previous day, Suiçmez noted that they aim for a structure that will form the Turkey Alliance, and expressed that provincial and district administrations will be shaped with a more inclusive approach.
Malatya Deputy Veli Ağbaba also argued that the New Party would be an address where broad segments of society meet. Ağbaba said, “Our greatest goal is to change this government under the leadership of our Chairman.” he said.
