As part of the third wave of operations targeting Üsküdar Municipality, 6 people, including Mayor Sinem Dedetaş, have been detained.

Following the detentions, while the CHP's absolute nullity management issued a 'copy-paste' statement, the first reaction to the operation also came from the YENİ Party.

YENİ Party Istanbul Deputy Gökan Zeybek stated in a post on his social media account that the number of operations targeting municipalities won in Istanbul following the March 31 local elections, including the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (İBB), has reached 16, and he assessed the events as an interference with the election results.

In his statement, Zeybek also touched upon the debts incurred by Üsküdar Municipality during the previous term, reminding that Dedetaş had asked how the municipality accumulated a debt of 1.3 billion TL during the AKP era. Zeybek stated that this question is still awaiting an answer.

Zeybek reminded that Dedetaş, together with the İBB, ended the order that had occupied public spaces on the Üsküdar coast and "cut off the funds flowing to foundations."

The full statement by Zeybek is as follows:

"With the third wave of operations carried out against Üsküdar, the number of operations targeting the municipalities we won in Istanbul in the March 31 local elections, including the İBB, has reached 16. Let our people know… This order is applying its own understanding of democracy against the results it does not accept at the ballot box. Your choices and your votes are being openly belittled by this government.

Sinem Dedetaş’s only “crime” is having won one of the most important districts of the government, such as Üsküdar.

Our Mayor Sinem has asked repeatedly… How did Üsküdar Municipality accumulate a debt of 1.3 billion TL during the AK Party era? This question still stands!

Her only “crime” is ending the order that had occupied public spaces on the Üsküdar coast for years, together with the İBB.

She cut off the funds flowing to foundations. After 30 years, she brought Üsküdar together with populist, social municipalism and worked successfully despite all the difficulties.

These are the real reasons behind what is happening today.

These operations do not stop the erosion you are experiencing in the eyes of our nation. You will understand the consequences of these unlawful acts at the first ballot box by being defeated even more heavily and experiencing it.
