Parliament Speaker Kurtulmuş on 'Terror-Free Turkey': There will be no general amnesty

Parliament Speaker Numan Kurtulmuş made statements regarding the "Terror-Free Turkey" process at the Independence Medal presentation ceremony held in the İnebolu district of Kastamonu. Stating that the process has reached a certain stage through the commission work carried out in the Grand National Assembly of Turkey (TBMM), Kurtulmuş emphasized that the legal regulation on the agenda will not mean a general amnesty.

In his speech, Kurtulmuş used the expressions, "The regulation will not be a general amnesty. We are throwing the imperialist terror project into the trash heap." Stating that Turkey has been fighting against terrorism for many years, Kurtulmuş expressed that the goal is to "build a terror-free Turkey."

The Parliament Speaker noted that a roadmap has been created as a result of the work of the National Solidarity, Brotherhood and Democracy Commission, and that the legal regulation process will come to the agenda in the next stage. Kurtulmuş said he hopes the regulation will be handled with the consensus of political parties.

"NOT IN THE NATURE OF A GENERAL AMNESTY"

Kurtulmuş made the following assessment regarding the scope of the law to be prepared: "This law that will be put forward is by no means in the nature of a general amnesty. It is by no means in the nature of a personal amnesty."

Stating that the regulation will enter into force with the laying down of arms, the dissolution of the organization, and the determination that the de facto existence of the terrorist organization has ended, Kurtulmuş said that the issue is not just about preparing a law.

Kurtulmuş stated that there will be no room for weapons, fighting, and division in the new era, and argued that a "brand new era of brotherhood" will begin with the adoption of the law. Touching upon the event commemorating Prophet Noah held on Mount Cudi in his speech, Kurtulmuş announced that the ceremony in question will be held under the auspices of the TBMM from now on.
