Resignation rumors in CHP local governments: Decision to be made after meeting

Following the debates linked to the "absolute nullity" process within the CHP, potential resignations at the local government level have returned to the agenda. It is alleged that some mayors in Ankara may leave the CHP to join the YENİ Party, founded by Özgür Özel.

In this context, eyes have turned to Fethi Yaşar, who has served as the Mayor of Yenimahalle since 2009. It is stated that Yaşar, who joined the CHP in 1966 through the Yenimahalle Youth Branches, has not yet resigned from his party, but will clarify his decision following a meeting he will hold with municipal council members next week.

According to Emirhan Çoban from Cumhuriyet, it is claimed that Yaşar does not support the current "nullity management" and is leaning toward choosing the YENİ Party. Allegations that Güdül Mayor Mehmet Doğanay could also continue his duties within the ranks of the YENİ Party in the coming period have been among the topics discussed in Ankara political circles.

It is stated that the number of local governments affected by the new process among the municipalities won by the CHP in the March 31, 2024 local elections may increase. It is suggested that after Çankaya Mayor Hüseyin Can Güner and Mamak Mayor Veli Gündüz Şahin, who are being tried while in custody, other names may also change parties.

Conversely, it is noted that some municipalities have decided to remain with the CHP. While it has been learned that Kalecik Mayor Satılmış Karakoç will remain in the CHP, it has been claimed that Tuncay Alemdaroğlu, who served as the Mayor of Yenimahalle under the CHP between 1999 and 2004, has resigned from his party.
