Security guard taken to CHP Headquarters reveals all: 'We were paid'

Following the "absolute nullity" decision issued on May 21 regarding the CHP's 38th Ordinary Congress, a new account has emerged regarding the activity around the CHP Headquarters on May 24. A person who was in front of the party building that day and stated that he works as a security guard at an entertainment venue in Ankara explained that they did not know the details of the assignment until they were taken to the headquarters.

The security guard stated that they were told they would be providing "member of parliament protection," that they went to the area in the morning, and left in the late afternoon. The same person alleged that he received payment for this job but did not share a clear figure regarding the fee he was given.

On the morning of May 24, many party members had gathered around the building following reports that a request for the evacuation of the CHP Headquarters would be served. While party members waited in the headquarters garden, a group supporting Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu had also taken their place in front of the building.

GUARD: WE DID NOT KNOW THE SIDES

Speaking to BirGün, the security guard said, "We were not fully aware of the situation. When bottles, stones, and such suddenly started raining down on us, we asked, 'What is happening?'" Claiming that he did not know there would be a "handover ceremony" at the headquarters, the person said they had no knowledge regarding the political sides of the incident.

The same person stated, "We were there as parliamentary bodyguards. We have no interest in any side anyway. We didn't even know what was going on. We didn't even know if the people we were standing behind were on Özel's side or Kılıçdaroğlu's side."

CHP Chairman Özgür Özel, in a statement he made on May 24, alleged that some individuals who were not CHP members were attempted to be brought into the party building, saying, "They tried to enter the party with burly types who are not CHP members and work as bodyguards in various bars in Ankara; we did not allow it."

The security guard stated that they go to such jobs from time to time for extra income, noting that on the night of May 23, they were told, "There is a protection job, we need 10 people." Stating that the payment came through an intermediary, the person said, "Think of it like a daily wage; everyone might have received a different fee."
