Unease in AKP over YRP: 'The probability of CHP winning is increasing'
AKP Deputy Chairman Efkan Ala criticized the New Welfare Party's (YRP) decision to field candidates in the local elections, stating, "If the CHP is going to win, there is no point in being under the umbrella of an alliance." Ala also said that in places where the YRP fields candidates, the probability of the CHP winning increases.
AKP Deputy Chairman Efkan Ala answered questions regarding the People's Alliance local election cooperation process and the election agenda.
Ala continued as follows:
"IF THE CHP IS GOING TO WIN..."
"The framework of the alliance is this; if two parties enter separately and one of the two is going to win, there is no problem. For example, in an electoral district, either the MHP or the AK Party will win. There is no problem here. But if the CHP is going to win when both parties enter the election, then there is a problem. If the CHP is going to win, there is no point in being under the umbrella of an alliance."
Upon the question, "So is the New Welfare Party no longer under the umbrella of the People's Alliance?", Ala made the following assessment:
"THE AKP'S ELECTION THERE IS AT RISK"
"Of course not. This is very clear, obvious. I mean, in the places where the New Welfare Party enters, it has no chance of winning the election itself, but because it enters the election there, it increases the probability of the CHP winning. In fact, the vote cast is not even given to that party; it directly helps the CHP, the opposition party, win the municipality. Because all the data shows that they have no chance of winning that election. There is no need to be a fortune teller nowadays for this. I mean, the calculation is clear, the situation is visible. But just because they enter the election there, this time the AK Party's election there is at risk."
"A DIFFERENCE IN UNDERSTANDING HAS EMERGED"
Pointing out that this understanding brings no benefit to either the People's Alliance or Turkey, Ala noted the following:
"Also, demands and proposals are very important here. When making a demand or proposal, it must be that Turkey, our nation, and the parties all emerge as winners. When the demands are in the direction of being given places where the AK Party already receives more than 50 percent of the vote, this has no meaning. What could be the point of parties that are in negotiations and have a desire to be under the same roof giving each other a metropolitan city or a city where we would already receive over 50 percent of the vote? The issue is to keep the cities entirely under the umbrella of the People's Alliance and not lose them. So that progress can be made toward Turkey's goals. A difference in understanding has emerged here."
