Applications for social housing to be rented out by TOKİ in Istanbul begin on September 14

The application schedule and conditions for social housing units that the Housing Development Administration (TOKİ) will rent out at affordable rates in Istanbul have been announced. Applications will begin on September 14; within the scope of the project, a total of 15,000 housing units will be rented out via lottery on both sides of the city.

Minister of Environment, Urbanization and Climate Change Murat Kurum announced that the housing units will be rented at rates below market value. According to the announced rental amounts, 10,000 TL will be paid monthly for 1+1 apartments, 12,000 TL for 2+1 apartments, 15,000 TL for 3+1 apartments, and 18,000 TL for 4+1 apartments.

The districts where the rental social housing units will be located are listed as Ataşehir, Arnavutköy, Başakşehir, Beyoğlu, Gaziosmanpaşa, Güngören, Kartal, Maltepe, Ümraniye, Üsküdar, Sancaktepe, and Tuzla.

WHAT ARE THE APPLICATION REQUIREMENTS?

Those who wish to apply for the project must be citizens of the Republic of Turkey, be at least 18 years old, and have resided in Istanbul for at least one year. While there is a requirement to be married to apply, the applicant and their spouse must have a combined monthly household income of less than 100,000 TL.

Another requirement is that neither the applicant nor their spouse may own a registered residence. Tenants who win the lottery will be able to reside in the housing units for a period of three years. At the end of this period, the units will be vacated and rented out to other tenants via a new lottery.

Minister Kurum stated that the first 1,071 housing units will be delivered to the beneficiaries in October 2026 with a ceremony to be held with the participation of President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan. Kurum said their goal is to "further lower rental prices, which are already on a downward trend."
