Allegations that Muğla Governor İdris Akbıyık invested in the Tera fund and was unable to withdraw his money have become a subject of public debate. Akbıyık's response of "It is my private life" when asked about the claims drew a reaction from former AKP MP Şamil Tayyar.
Speaking to Nefes, Governor Akbıyık replied to questions on the matter by saying, "Do I have to answer, brother? It is my private life, and I am also seeking my legal rights."
Following Akbıyık's statement, Şamil Tayyar, who commented on his social media account, argued that the governor should respond to the allegations due to his public office. Tayyar stated that the claim that Akbıyık had turned his 20 million lira in the fund into 50 million lira had come to the agenda.
Tayyar also stated that Akbıyık's close relationship with former Minister Fatma Betül Sayan Kaya and TERA executive Emre Tezmen was being discussed. Stating that these allegations could not be considered within the scope of "private life," Tayyar called on Governor Akbıyık to resign from his post.
Fund schemes and trickery cannot be a "private life." Please, do what is necessary and leave that post.
While Tayyar's outburst opens a new chapter regarding the position of public officials in fund controversies, Governor Akbıyık's statement that he is "seeking his legal rights" in the face of the allegations continues to maintain its place on the agenda.
