Interior Minister Mustafa Çiftçi announced that the goal has been reached in efforts across Turkey to move stray animals into shelters and natural habitats.
Responding to questions about the agenda during a live broadcast on Lider Haber, Çiftçi stated that the process was first initiated in 51 provinces that are not metropolitan municipalities, and that implementation began in the 30 metropolitan municipalities as of August.
Çiftçi said that municipalities have established shelters and natural habitats, and that treatment, neutering, and adoption processes are being carried out following the collection of stray animals.
Minister Çiftçi stated that the process was completed with the admission of a stray animal to a shelter in Diyarbakır on October 21, 2026, and said, "As of this Wednesday, we have reached the targeted number across all of Turkey. We have collected 100 percent of them."
Çiftçi noted that the feeding and vaccination of the animals taken into shelters and natural habitats are ongoing, and that adoption opportunities remain available for interested citizens.
