While an official announcement regarding Sony's next-generation game console, the PlayStation 6, has not yet been made, a new claim regarding the device's launch schedule has emerged. According to information shared on X by Mille A, who is known for leaks regarding the PlayStation world, Sony plans to introduce the PS6 in early March 2027.
This claim is based on the company's current roadmap. Therefore, it should not be viewed as a finalized announcement schedule. If the shared timeline proves accurate, the launch could be expected to take place within the first two weeks of March 2027.
Looking at Sony's previous console launches, the PlayStation 4 was announced on February 20, 2013, and the PlayStation 5 on June 11, 2020. The March 2027 claim for the PS6 is also seen as consistent with expectations that the new console could be released during the holiday season of the same year.
Discussions surrounding the PlayStation 6 are not limited to the launch date. Previous reports suggested that the component cost of the console could be at least 1,200 dollars. In this scenario, it is stated that it may be difficult for Sony to keep the retail price below 1,000 dollars.
The possibility of a high price could make it difficult for the next-generation console to reach a wide audience in its initial period. This situation could also create risks for big-budget productions at a time when game development costs are rising. For this reason, it is expected that Sony may continue its support for the PlayStation 5 for some time even after the PS6 is released.
