Long-awaited feature coming to WhatsApp: This is how status videos will be watched from now on
A new feature spotted in the iOS beta version of WhatsApp will make it possible to watch status videos at double speed by pressing and holding the screen.
WhatsApp is working on a new video playback option for "Status Updates" in the app. With the feature appearing in the iOS beta version, users will be able to watch status videos at 2x speed.
The innovation, detected by WABetaInfo, will work with a practical touch gesture on the status viewing screen. Accordingly, when users press and hold the right side of the screen while watching a status video, the video will play at double speed. The playback speed is expected to return to normal when the press is released.
This feature is being developed especially for users who want to watch status videos that are shared consecutively or are longer in duration in a shorter amount of time. As video content occupies more space on social media and messaging platforms, fast playback options are becoming increasingly common.
WhatsApp's new fast playback feature is currently in the testing phase. An official date for when the feature will be rolled out to all users has not yet been announced.
