Google has expanded the file creation and editing capabilities of its AI assistant, Gemini. With the new update, users will be able to work on Google Docs, Sheets, and presentation files, as well as PDFs, directly within the Gemini chat.
The company, which previously offered support for creating and downloading files via Gemini, now allows files to be viewed and edited in the chat window before they are downloaded. This means users will no longer need to restart the process or switch to a different application for minor changes.

The new feature supports PDFs, Google Docs, Google Sheets, presentation files, Markdown documents, TXT files, and code files. Files can be opened in full-screen view; users can select a specific part of a document and ask Gemini to rewrite that section, answer questions, or make changes to the content.
One of the examples provided by Google is selecting data in a spreadsheet to turn it into a chart. This shows that Gemini is beginning to take on a more comprehensive role not only in text editing but also in interactively working with document content.
PDF viewing and editing support is available on both web and mobile applications. Editing options for Google Docs, Sheets, presentations, Markdown, TXT, and code files are currently only available in the web version of Gemini.
Google has begun rolling out the new capabilities in all regions and languages where the Gemini app is supported. There is no paid subscription requirement to take advantage of these features.
