A confession years in the making: Ahmet Çakar reveals the name behind his shooting

Former referee Ahmet Çakar made a confession years later on the YouTube channel 343 Digital, where he works as a commentator.

After retiring from refereeing and transitioning into commentary, Çakar, who drew reactions for his harsh remarks, was subjected to an armed attack and was severely wounded.

Çakar pointed to the name behind his shooting, identifying Ali Şen.

During the program, while recounting a memory, Ulueren stated: "I was having dinner with Adnan Polat at PaperMoon when President Ali Şen arrived. I asked President Ali, 'Why did you do such a thing? Why did you have Çakar shot?' He said, 'Serhat, I didn't. Would I do such things?' He said, 'Let's not get into these topics.' He said, 'He also did wrong.' I said, 'Ali brother, why did you do it?' No answer. You never stood up and said 'Ali Şen'."

Following these words from Ulueren, Ahmet Çakar made the following statement:

"5-6 years passed. Ali Şen's grandson lost his life in an ATV accident. Ali Şen's grandson and my youngest daughter were very close friends at school. My daughter underwent psychological treatment for 15 days. My daughter grew into a young woman. One evening, we were having dinner as a family in Bodrum. She said, 'I learned, Dad. How strange this life is, I learned a very big lesson.' She said, 'The grandson of the man who tried to shoot and kill my father was my brother. I cried for days over his passing, oh to such a life,' and she continued eating her fish. And that subject was closed."

WHAT HAPPENED?

Dr. Ahmet Çakar, who retired from refereeing in 1998, began working as a medical professional while also starting a career in football commentary. On February 25, 2004, he was subjected to an armed attack inside his vehicle while leaving the health center where he worked as a doctor, located behind the Profilo Shopping Center; he was struck by five bullets. The attacker, who fled on foot, could not be caught. While Ahmet Çakar stated that he did not fully see or recognize the attacker, he noted that he suspected 3 people as instigators and provided these names to the police. The number of suspects first dropped to 2 and then to 1, but no progress could be made regarding the instigator, nor could the attacker be caught.
