A new era in football: No more draws in that league! The winner will be decided by penalties
The traditional points system in the Japanese league has changed; matches will no longer end in a draw, and in the event of a tie, penalty shootouts will determine the winner.
With a decision taken specifically for the 100th anniversary of football in Japan, the controversial draw practice in the country's league and various organizations has been ended. In the new season, if the deadlock is not broken during the 90-minute regulation time of matches, the games will be decided directly by penalty shootouts.
While the practice is planned to last for one year, the scoring system in the league is also changing fundamentally with the new system. From now on, teams that win in 90 minutes will earn three points, while in matches that end in a draw, the team that wins on penalties will be awarded two points, and the team that loses on penalties will be awarded one point. Teams that lose in regulation time will not be awarded any points.
This model will not be limited to league matches only; it will also be used in special tournaments. Thus, fans will see a winner in every match, and the excitement of football will be kept alive throughout the season.
The new scoring table will be as follows:
- Win in regulation time: 3 points
- Win on penalties: 2 points
- Loss on penalties: 1 point
- Loss in regulation time: 0 points
