Arda Turan confronts referee
In the second leg of the UEFA Europa League third qualifying round, Shakhtar Donetsk, managed by Arda Turan, faced Greek side Panathinaikos following a 0-0 draw in the first leg.
Tensions flared on the sidelines following an incident in the 82nd minute of the match.
Shakhtar Donetsk manager Arda Turan became angry at a referee's decision while the match was still tied at 0-0. After protesting vehemently, Arda Turan was shown a red card by match referee Daniel Siebert.
Even more incensed by the red card decision, Arda Turan walked toward the referee in a confrontational manner.
The Turkish manager was escorted off the pitch with difficulty. Arda Turan watched the remainder of the match from the stands.
The match remained scoreless through regulation and extra time. Panathinaikos defeated their opponents 4-3 on penalties, eliminating Shakhtar Donetsk and advancing to the play-off round.
