Dries Mertens turns down Galatasaray's offer
Galatasaray offered Dries Mertens, whose contract expires at the end of the season, a position on the coaching staff, but the Belgian player plans to retire from football to spend time with his family and travel the world.
Galatasaray has announced that the contract of Dries Mertens, whom they signed on a free transfer in the summer of 2022, will expire at the end of the season.
According to a report in HT Spor, the yellow-red management is not considering a new contract with Mertens due to cost and the foreign player quota. However, they did offer Mertens a role on the coaching staff should he decide to retire from football.
It has been learned that the Belgian star plans to end his football career to spend more time with his family and travel the world. The 37-year-old Mertens has contributed to his team with 24 goals and 44 assists in 130 matches played in a Galatasaray jersey.
