Former Beşiktaş player Hugo Almeida returns to Turkey
Former Beşiktaş striker Hugo Almeida has taken the helm at Hatayspor as head coach after leaving his playing career behind at the age of 41.
Hugo Almeida, who joined Beşiktaş from Werder Bremen in 2011, wore the black-and-white jersey for 2.5 years.
After leaving Beşiktaş, the Portuguese player remained without a club for about a year before signing with the Italian team Cesena.
Almeida, who hung up his boots in 2020, began his career as an assistant coach in Coimbra that same year.
The 41-year-old Almeida, who also served as an assistant coach at Bodrum FK, has taken charge of Hatayspor as head coach for the first time.
Hatayspor announced the appointment on social media with the following statement:
"Hugo Miguel Pereira de Almeida has been appointed as the head coach of our team. We welcome our coach and wish him success in his new role. Bem-vindo!"
