Polish swimmer Bartłomiej Kubkowski swims across the Baltic Sea in 55 hours

Polish open-water swimmer Bartlomiej Kubkowski has achieved a goal he has been pursuing for years in the Baltic Sea. Kubkowski completed the approximately 160-kilometer distance from Sweden to Poland after 55 hours of non-stop swimming.

Setting off from the Swedish coast on Friday, the athlete arrived at the Polish coast on Sunday evening, where supporters were waiting for him. For the achievement to be officially recognized, Kubkowski had to exit the water under his own power and not receive any assistance from a boat during the crossing. It was stated that this condition was met.

Kubkowski, who appeared visibly exhausted after reaching the shore, swam for more than two days without sleep or a real break. In addition to the distance, cold water, waves, changing weather conditions, and physical exhaustion were among the main challenges the athlete faced during the crossing.

The swimmer's team provided support throughout the crossing regarding route tracking, safety, and regular energy and fluid intake. It was reported that while the prolonged lack of sleep and fatigue led to moments of lost concentration, Kubkowski still managed to complete the course.

SUCCEEDED ON THE FIFTH ATTEMPT

Kubkowski first attempted to swim across the Baltic Sea in 2022 but had to stop after 115 kilometers. In 2025, he came very close to the goal, having swum approximately 159 kilometers and remaining in the water for 53 hours. In that attempt, he had to abandon the crossing about 15 kilometers from the Polish coast due to extreme fatigue.

This time, leveraging his previous experiences, the athlete prepared for the grueling course with long swimming training sessions, endurance work, mental preparation, and a detailed nutrition plan. Kubkowski dedicated his success to those supported by the Cancer Fighters foundation.

Kubkowski, who holds the world record in 24-hour swimming, is an athlete known for winning medals in national and international competitions and for his Ultra Baltic Swim project. The Baltic crossing has been recorded as one of the most remarkable endurance tests of his career.
