Salah's demands from Beşiktaş are eye-watering

The behind-the-scenes details of why the Mohamed Salah transfer, which has been on Beşiktaş's agenda for a long time, did not materialize have emerged. The black-and-white club ended negotiations after refusing the demands presented by the player's side regarding image rights.

AGREEMENT REACHED ON SALARY

Beşiktaş offered the 34-year-old Egyptian star an annual salary of approximately 20 million Euros, including bonuses. It was learned that the parties reached an agreement in principle on the salary.

The player's agent, Ramy Abbas, also lowered his initial commission demand of 7.5 million Euros to 5 million Euros. However, the negotiations stalled over the image rights clauses in the contract.

STRIKING DEMANDS REGARDING IMAGE RIGHTS

According to the report by Oğun Şahinoğlu, Salah's agent requested unconventional terms from Beşiktaş.

Accordingly, it was demanded that approximately 50 percent of the profit remaining for the club from the sale of Salah-branded jerseys and other products in Turkey be left to the player's side. Furthermore, it was requested that the entire profit to be obtained from the sale of Salah-branded products in Egypt be given to the player's side.

It was stated that the total cost of these demands reached a level close to the annual salary to be paid to the player. Upon this, the Beşiktaş management decided to terminate the transfer negotiations.

ÖNDER ÖZEN: "OUR OFFER REMAINS ON THE TABLE"

Beşiktaş Football Director Önder Özen also made statements regarding the transfer process at a press conference he held.

Özen stated that the technical team had previously discussed the project and goals with Salah, but that an agreement could not be reached on financial terms, saying, "Demands were made that would lead the negotiations to a deadlock. There are examples where jersey sales percentages are left to the player, but there must be a limit to this. We were faced with an image rights demand on a scale that our club has never granted to any footballer before. Our president displayed a realistic stance instead of a populist approach and walked away from the table. Nevertheless, our offer remains on the table."
