Tottenham abandons Mauro Icardi transfer: Premier League squad registration and salary details emerge

It has been suggested that Tottenham will not make a transfer move for free agent Mauro Icardi. Despite the North London club's search for reinforcements in the attacking line, it is stated that they do not view the Argentine striker as a viable option under current conditions.

According to a report by Team Talk, citing Football Insider, Tottenham considered the Icardi file but decided not to make a formal approach for the player. Reports in the Italian press on Thursday had claimed that the Icardi option was being evaluated to provide manager Roberto De Zerbi with an additional striker alternative.

SQUAD REGISTRATION AND SALARY DEMANDS WERE INFLUENTIAL

The report stated that one of the main reasons for Tottenham's step back regarding Icardi was Premier League squad registration. Accordingly, Icardi could not be included in Tottenham's 25-man Premier League squad until January.

It was also reported that the club is cautious about the transfer due to the player's high salary expectations and lack of Premier League experience. While Tottenham significantly revamped its squad during the summer transfer window, spending over 300 million pounds on names such as Sandro Tonali, Mateus Fernandes, Savio, Omar Marmoush, Jan Paul van Hecke, Marcos Senesi, Andrew Robertson, Mykhailo Mudryk, and Tosin Adarabioyo.

However, it was noted that Tottenham has failed to win any of its first 5 league matches and sits at the bottom of the table. This situation had brought new searches to the agenda for De Zerbi's team, particularly in the attacking line.

It was noted that the strongest possibility for Icardi is Serie A. The report stated that Lazio is one of the Italian clubs interested in the 33-year-old footballer.
