Leech therapy turns into a disaster in Kayseri: Unable to work for 2 months

For Mehmet Uğuş, a hairdresser in Kayseri who developed varicose veins in his legs due to standing for long hours at his job, life turned dark after he underwent leech therapy. The wounds that formed on Uğuş's legs after the leeches are growing and bleeding day by day. Because the wounds became infected, Uğuş has been unable to go to his shop and work for 2 months. Mehmet Uğuş said he feels both financially and emotionally deceived.

"THEY COST US OUR HEALTH"

"While we were hoping to improve our health, they cost us our health," said Mehmet Uğuş. "We hairdressers get 'varicose veins' as an occupational disease from standing too much. Mine had progressed a bit. Then I met someone who followed me around for 7-8 months. He said, 'I will cure you. If I can't cure you, I will give you back the money you paid.' He kept coming to our shop and calling me on the phone for 7-8 months like this. He said, 'Come, let me heal your legs. We have healed legs worse than yours.'"

I had it done because I wanted to get better. First, he came and performed 36 cups of cupping therapy. He said I would get better this way. He also came once a week for a month, applying a total of 42 leeches, 5 on one leg and 5 on the other each time.

"I HAVEN'T WORKED FOR 2 MONTHS"

In the period following the application of these leeches, my legs got even worse. They bled a lot. My legs broke out everywhere and sores appeared. I haven't been working at all for 2 months. I can barely step on my foot. I called him and told him. However, he did not accept any responsibility at all.

"I WAS SCAMMED IN A WAY"

"He said, 'I guess your legs were something different.' So, I am a victim. Because of the money I paid, I couldn't pay my Bağ-Kur (social security) premiums. Now, because I can't pay my Bağ-Kur, I can't even go to the hospital. I don't know what to do. I was scammed in a way. I haven't been able to go to my shop for 2 months. While we were hoping to improve our health, they cost us our health," he said.
