Address to the nation by Syria's interim president Shara

Delivering his first address to the nation after being elected as the President of the transition period, Shara said:

“Praise be to God, Lord of the Worlds, and may peace and blessings be upon our Master Muhammad, his family, and his companions.” Beginning his speech with these words, Shara stated, "54 days have passed since Syria's liberation from the shackles of a cruel regime that had weighed upon us for decades. One of the most oppressive forms of government in the world has come to an end. Syria has become free, first by the grace of God, and then thanks to everyone who struggled both inside and outside the country."

Noting that they are opening a new page in the country's history together with the Syrian people, Shara said, "Yesterday, I assumed responsibility for the country following comprehensive consultations with legal experts to ensure the progress of the political process. Today, I address you not as a ruler, but as someone serving our wounded homeland. I will work with all my strength and will to ensure the unity and development of Syria."

"WE WILL WORK TO FORM A COMPREHENSIVE TRANSITIONAL GOVERNMENT"

Announcing that they will work to form a comprehensive transitional government that reflects Syria's diversity, Shara said, "This is a transition period; it is part of a political process in which all Syrians, both inside and outside the country, will build their future freely and with dignity, without exclusion or marginalization. We will work to form a comprehensive transitional government that reflects the diversity of Syria, with its women, men, and youth. This government will undertake the task of building the institutions of the new Syria until the stage of free and fair elections is reached."

"WE WILL ANNOUNCE THE CONSTITUTION AFTER THE STEPS ARE COMPLETED"

Syrian Transition Period President Shara stated the following regarding the steps to be taken after the decision to dissolve the parliament yesterday:

"I announce that I will establish a preparatory committee to form an interim assembly that will assume legislative power during the transition process. The preparatory committee for the National Dialogue Conference will be announced in the coming days. This conference will be a platform for direct discussions and consultations on our future political program. Once these steps are completed, we will announce the constitutional declaration that will form the legal basis of the transition period."

Listing Syria's priorities, Shara emphasized that goals such as ensuring social peace, bringing those who committed crimes against the Syrian people to justice, protecting territorial integrity, building transparent and fair state institutions, creating a strong economy, and improving living conditions will be at the forefront.

Shara stated that those who committed crimes against the Syrian people, whether inside or outside the country, will be prosecuted.

Expressing that they will work to make Syria a strong regional and international actor, Shara added that the goal is to build a robust economy.
