A tsunami warning has been issued for coastal regions following a 7.1 magnitude earthquake that occurred off the coast of Kumamoto on Kyushu Island.
A 7.1 magnitude earthquake has occurred off the coast of Kumamoto prefecture, located on Kyushu Island in southwestern Japan. According to initial assessments by the Japan Meteorological Agency, the tremor was felt across a wide region.

Following the earthquake, the Japanese public broadcaster NHK announced that a tsunami warning of approximately 1 meter in height had been issued for coastal areas. Authorities have called on residents in coastal regions to stay away from the sea and move to higher ground.

The Japanese government has also issued an emergency earthquake warning for the prefectures of Nagasaki, Kagoshima, Fukuoka, Saga, Oita, and Miyazaki, in addition to Kumamoto.
While authorities have urged caution against aftershocks, no official statement has yet been made regarding potential loss of life or damage caused by the earthquake. It was reported that inspections in the region are ongoing.
