Death toll in Germany shooting rises to 6
The number of people who lost their lives in a shooting near a youth center in the German state of Lower Saxony has risen to 6, while the number of suspects taken into custody has increased to 3.
The death toll has risen following a shooting near a youth center in the city of Stade, in the German state of Lower Saxony.
The Lüneburg Police Department stated that the number of people who lost their lives in the attack has risen to 6, reporting that 5 people—4 women and 1 man—died at the scene, while 1 person passed away at the hospital where they were taken.
Stating that a large number of people were also injured in the attack, the Lüneburg Police Department noted that some of the injured are in critical condition, and therefore the death toll may rise further.
Police stated that the number of suspects taken into custody has risen to 3, noting that 2 of them were individuals attempting to flee the scene in a luxury vehicle. It was reported that one of the suspects is the attacker, while the other 2 are from the attacker's immediate circle.
According to initial police findings, the motive for the attack is a family tragedy
According to a statement made by a police spokesperson from the Lüneburg Police Department, the attack most likely occurred due to a family issue connected to the youth center. The spokesperson said, "The incident is not related to femicide or a political motive; the cause of the act of violence is an extended family tragedy centered around the youth care facility."
Police are expected to hold a press conference in the coming hours.
