Death toll rises in South Korea forest fires!

As the forest fires that have turned life into a nightmare in South Korea's South Gyeongsang and North Gyeongsang provinces enter their 7th day, the rising losses have revealed the scale of the disaster. According to information obtained from the South Korean Central Disaster and Safety Countermeasures Headquarters, the number of people who lost their lives in the fires has risen to 26.

It was reported that 22 of the deaths were recorded in North Gyeongsang province and 4 in South Gyeongsang province, while 30 people were injured, 8 of them seriously.

16 THOUSAND 700 PEOPLE REMAIN IN SHELTERS

It was noted that the total number of people evacuated due to the fires was 37 thousand 185, and 20 thousand 485 people returned to their homes after the danger passed. It was announced that 16 thousand 700 people are still staying in shelters. While it was stated that 36 thousand 9 hectares of land have burned so far, it was pointed out that this is approximately 13 thousand hectares more than the damage caused by the forest fires that hit the country in 2000, known as the worst forest fires in history.

FIRES CONTINUE

As of today, it was stated that 52 percent of the fires in Andong city, 54 percent of the fires in the Uiseong region, and 77 percent of the fires in the Sancheong, Hadong, and Cheongsong regions have been extinguished. It was noted that the fight against the flames continues. Acting President Han Duck-soo also instructed Acting Interior Minister Ko Ki-dong to oversee firefighting and relief efforts in North Gyeongsang province.
