Explosion sounds in the Strait of Hormuz: Iran announces two US drones have been downed

According to Iran's official news agency IRNA, a series of explosion sounds were heard at short intervals on Qeshm Island, located in the Strait of Hormuz.

Due to the intensity of the explosions, it was assessed that the incident may have occurred at a point in the interior of the island. It was also reported that some island residents observed two aircraft flying in the sky.

While no detailed explanation regarding the source of the explosion sounds has come from Iranian officials, the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps issued a written statement.

The statement claimed that two US-made MQM-170 unmanned aerial vehicles were neutralized south of Qeshm Island using advanced electronic warfare systems. The Revolutionary Guards reported that a total of four MQM-170 type drones have been captured to date.

The Revolutionary Guards also claimed that another US-made MQ-9 type drone was downed in the east of the Strait of Hormuz; however, it was not specified which country this drone belonged to. The statement also included the claim that 55 MQ-9 and 14 MQ-1 type drones have been downed so far.
