STATEMENT FROM THE MARINE CORPS
The US Marine Corps confirmed the accident in its initial statement regarding the incident. The statement included the following: “We can confirm a Class A mishap involving a Marine Corps F-35B near MCAS Miramar. The pilot ejected from the aircraft and was recovered. More information will be shared shortly.”
In images shared on social media, thick smoke was seen rising from the area where the aircraft crashed. It was reported that fire crews intervened in the fire that broke out after the accident.

The F-35B is among the fifth-generation fighter jets known for their short takeoff and vertical landing capabilities. It was reported that the investigation into the cause of the accident is ongoing and that details will be shared later.
