Major shock for US presidential candidate Trump before the election: Campaign team blames Iran
It has been alleged that the campaign emails of former US President and Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump have been hacked.
As the US counts down to the presidential election on November 5, 2024, it has been claimed that the email accounts used for Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump's election campaign have been hacked.
In a statement from Trump's election campaign team, it was alleged that the email accounts were attacked and that Iran was held responsible for the breach involving sensitive internal campaign documents.
Campaign spokesperson Steven Cheung argued that the attack was carried out by "foreign sources hostile to the US," stating, "The documents were obtained illegally. The goal is to create chaos."
Cheung pointed to a report by Politico magazine, which included the statement that "Iranian attackers accessed the account of a high-ranking US official."
In a statement regarding the report published by Microsoft, Iran's Mission to the United Nations (UN) denied the allegations that it had interfered in the US presidential election or carried out a cyberattack.
Meanwhile, no evidence was provided for the claim coming from the Trump campaign.
On the other hand, the report in question alleged that an Iranian military intelligence unit sent a phishing email to the US presidential campaign in June 2024 via the account of a former advisor that had been compromised.
