New statements from Trump on the agreement with Iran: We have reached an agreement on many issues
US President Donald Trump made statements to members of the press regarding the course of the agreement with Iran.
US President Donald Trump stated, "We have reached an agreement with Iran on many issues, and I think something very positive will happen," adding, "Iran has agreed very firmly not to possess nuclear weapons. They have also agreed to hand over their underground nuclear materials to us."
US President Donald Trump answered questions from members of the press in front of the White House before departing for his visits to Nevada and Arizona. When asked about the possibility that Pope Leo XIV might have been referring to him while criticizing those who use religious goals for political ambitions, Trump said, "There is something very important that the Pope needs to understand. Iran has killed 42,000 completely unarmed people. Iran cannot have nuclear weapons. If they do, every country in the world, including Italy where the Pope is, will have problems. The Pope needs to understand. Iran cannot have nuclear weapons. The world would be in great danger."
"(The ceasefire with Iran) may not need to be extended"
Trump said he was not sure whether it was necessary to extend the ceasefire with Iran. When asked if they were considering extending the ceasefire, Trump said, "Maybe it won't even be necessary. It may not need to be extended. Iran wants to make a deal; they are ready to do things today that they were unwilling to do two months ago."
"There will be a ceasefire (in Lebanon)"
Regarding a question about an agreement between Israel and Lebanon, Trump said, "It is a very exciting situation because it has been 48 years in the making. I think there will be a ceasefire. We will meet with Netanyahu and the President of Lebanon. I spoke with both of them today. There will be a ceasefire, and Hezbollah will also be included in the ceasefire."
When asked when the next round of face-to-face meetings with Iran would take place, Trump replied, "Probably this weekend."
Addressing the US blockade on ships going to and from Iranian ports, Trump said, "The blockade is working incredibly well. Iran cannot trade. They have no navy, no air force, no air defense. They lost everything, including their leaders. Now they have new leaders, and we find them quite reasonable."
"If there is no agreement, the conflicts will start again"
Trump announced that if an agreement with Iran is not reached, the conflicts will resume. When asked if he was considering extending the ceasefire if there is no deal with Iran, Trump said, "If there is no agreement, the conflicts will start again."
Emphasizing that the most important thing is for Iran not to acquire nuclear weapons, Trump said, "Iran has agreed very firmly not to possess nuclear weapons. They have also agreed to hand over their underground nuclear materials to us. We have reached an agreement with Iran on many issues, and I think something very positive will happen."
"No ship can pass our navy"
US President Trump also touched upon the blockade implemented in the Strait of Hormuz, saying, "Our navy is incredible. No ship even thinks about entering here. No ship can pass our navy."
"I am not fighting with the Pope"
Regarding a question about the tension he experienced with Pope Leo, Trump said, "I am not fighting with the Pope. The Pope made a statement and said that Iran could possess nuclear weapons. I, on the other hand, am saying that Iran cannot possess nuclear weapons. The Pope needs to look at the 42,000 protesters killed by Iran in the last two or three months. These people had no weapons or anything else in their hands. Looking at this, I can say that I have a different opinion than the Pope. I have the right to disagree with his view. I have the right to disagree with the Pope's view. The Pope needs to understand. This is the real world. It is an ugly world."
Stating that the brother of Pope Leo, the first American Pope in the Vatican, Louis, is a full "Make America Great Again" (MAGA) supporter, Trump said, "I am sure the Pope is also a great person; I have not met him. But I do not agree with him."
"Everything will work out and oil prices will fall below previous levels"
Regarding a question about the course of oil prices, Trump said, "I think we are conducting a very successful negotiation with Iran, and if there is an agreement, I think it will be announced soon. This will provide us with free flow of oil and free passage through the Strait of Hormuz. I think everything will work out and oil prices will fall below previous levels. There will be many positive developments."
"I will go to Lebanon at an appropriate time"
When asked about the possibility of visiting Lebanon after the agreement, Trump replied, "I will do that. I will go to Lebanon at an appropriate time."
"The blockade was more effective than the bombing"
When asked if he was still interested in Iran's oil, Trump said, "We will see. It is hard to believe, but we have a very good relationship with Iran right now. I think this is a result of the combination of about four weeks of bombing and a strong blockade. To tell you the truth, the blockade was more effective than the bombing."
"If the agreement is signed in Islamabad, I may go"
When asked about the possibility of going to Pakistan if there is an agreement with Iran, Trump said, "Pakistan has done a great job. They were very good. I may go there. If the agreement is signed in Islamabad, I may go."
Repeated his criticisms of Europe
Expressing his reaction to the UK and European allies again, Trump said, "We spend trillions of dollars for NATO. But when we asked for help on a much smaller issue like Hormuz and Iran, they were not there."
Trump said, "We were in Ukraine. Actually, we shouldn't have been. We stood by them regarding the problems they faced in the past. But they were not by our side when we asked for help. That is why I think they will not be by our side if there is a major conflict."
When asked if he thought Europeans should buy more oil and gas from the US, Trump said, "Yes, they should. At the same time, they should also use the North Sea."
