Trump announces new governance process for Gaza

US President Donald Trump has announced that the process for disarmament and the establishment of a new governance structure in Gaza has begun. In a statement on his social media account, Trump indicated that Hamas and its allied organizations are disarming and that a new era of governance led by a Peace Council will be initiated in Gaza.

According to Trump's post, the withdrawal of Israeli forces from Gaza is envisioned as the disarmament process is completed. The US President stated that an International Stabilization Force would also work alongside a new Palestinian police force to ensure security for Gaza residents and regional countries.

Touching upon the mediation aspect of the process, Trump thanked Turkey, Qatar, and Egypt. Trump argued that the arrangement announced is a critical step toward Gaza being governed by a new Palestinian government.

RESERVATIONS FROM PALESTINIAN GROUPS

However, statements from Palestinian groups indicated that uncertainties regarding the implementation of the process on the ground persist. In a written statement released by the spokesperson for the Islamic Jihad Movement, it was stated that reports claiming an agreement had been reached between Palestinian groups and Israel were inaccurate.

The statement noted that the information appearing in the media was "sensitive and inaccurate," and that reservations were held regarding this information in its current form. Hamas negotiation team member Ghazi Hamad also said that the resistance would not take steps to lay down arms unless Israel fully fulfills its commitments under the agreement.

Hamad emphasized that the issue of arms cannot be handled in isolation; he stressed that this topic is directly linked to fundamental issues such as Israel's withdrawal from the Gaza Strip and the reconstruction of the region.

Nickolay Mladenov, High Representative of the Gaza Peace Council, also announced on his social media account that an agreement had been reached on the decommissioning of weapons and civilian transition in Gaza. Mladenov noted that Israel's withdrawal from occupied territories must proceed simultaneously with the laying down of arms.

Mladenov further stated that the National Committee for Gaza Governance (NCAG) and the Palestinian people are in need of political and practical support. Thanking Trump for his role in advancing the process, Mladenov also expressed gratitude to Turkey, the US, Egypt, Qatar, and the United Arab Emirates for their support, which kept parties at the table during moments when negotiations were deadlocked.
