In his speech before Trump, US Vice Presidential Candidate James David Vance said, "It is hard to believe that a week ago an assassin tried to take Donald Trump's life, and now we have gathered a tremendous crowd here in Michigan to welcome him back on the campaign trail." he stated.
Trump, who took the stage with a smaller bandage on his ear than the one he wore at the Republican National Convention, referred to the assassination attempt he survived by saying "he took a bullet for democracy." he said. "I shouldn't be here right now, but something very special happened." said Trump, "I stand before you only by the grace of Almighty God" he said.
"WE WILL FIGHT TOGETHER AND WE WILL WIN"
Trump, who thanked the staff at Butler Memorial Hospital where he was taken after the armed attack at his rally in Butler, Pennsylvania, also described Corey Comperatore, who was shot and killed during the assassination attempt, as a "hero." Repeating the words "Fight, fight, fight" that he shouted while standing up immediately after surviving the assassination attempt with injuries, Trump said, "And we will win, win, win."
"XI JINPING SENT ME A BEAUTIFUL MESSAGE"
Stating that he received messages from world leaders after the assassination, Trump said regarding Chinese President Xi Jinping, "I got along very well with President Xi. He is a great man. He sent me a beautiful message when he heard what happened the other day." Noting that he received messages not only from Xi but from many leaders, Trump said, "You know, many of them didn't like what I did to them, but they wrote to me. Almost all of them sent me a message. It was very nice. I have a good relationship with all of them. That is a good thing."
"ELON MUSK DIDN'T EVEN MENTION A DONATION"
Addressing reports that billionaire Elon Musk would donate $45 million a month to his election campaign, Trump noted that he had spoken with Musk on the phone before the rally, saying, "I spoke to him a short while ago and told him I was coming here. I asked how he was, and he didn't even mention the donation."
