UAV that entered Lithuanian airspace shot down by NATO fighter jets

Lithuanian President Gitanas Nauseda announced that an unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) that entered the country's airspace was destroyed by NATO fighter jets. According to initial assessments, it was stated that the UAV came from the direction of Belarus.

In a post on the social media platform X, Nauseda stated, "A UAV that just entered Lithuanian airspace was destroyed by NATO fighter jets. I thank the allied personnel for their swift response."

The Lithuanian leader emphasized that air defense readiness is critical for the region at a time when Russia is intensifying its attacks on Ukraine. Nauseda said, "Lithuania will defend its airspace together with our NATO allies."

According to the Lithuanian National Radio and Television, the UAV was shot down near the village of Pratkunai in the Kaisiadorys district of Kaunas County.

Following the incident, flights at Vilnius Airport were temporarily suspended and restrictions were imposed on the airspace. The airport resumed operations once it was announced that the air threat had been lifted.
