US to establish 30,000-person detention facility at Guantanamo

US President Donald Trump announced that they will use Guantanamo to combat illegal immigration. Stating that he will instruct the Pentagon and the Department of Homeland Security to prepare a 30,000-person detention facility at Guantanamo Bay for illegal immigrants, Trump said, "Most people don't even know that we have 30,000 beds at Guantanamo for the most dangerous criminals who threaten the American people."

LAKEN RILEY ACT ENACTED

Trump signed the Laken Riley Act. The law mandates the detention of illegal immigrants for crimes such as theft and robbery. The legislation was prepared following the murder of Laken Riley, a nursing student in Georgia, by a Venezuelan immigrant who had entered the US on parole.

President Trump stated that the law would "save the lives of countless American citizens" and thanked the members of the Senate and the House of Representatives who supported it. According to Trump, the law will enable the federal government to take tougher steps against immigrant criminals and increase border security.

"WE HAVE ENDED FAILED POLICIES"

Trump emphasized that his administration has made a historic change in immigration policies. Stating that illegal immigrant entries across US borders have reached record levels, Trump said, "We have gotten rid of Washington's decades of failed policies and are taking tougher measures to protect our country."

Touching on the measures taken to combat illegal immigration, Trump stated that illegal immigrants arrested for serious crimes such as theft, robbery, extortion, assault on a police officer, and murder will now be detained and deported, that the border patrol has increased operations, and that illegal immigrant criminals have begun to be sent back to their countries on military aircraft. Trump also claimed that countries like Venezuela are experiencing a drop in crime rates because gang members and prisoners are coming to the US.

"WE WILL RID THE US OF CRIMINALS"

Stating that the fight against immigrant criminals will continue, Trump said, "The law I signed today is another step toward the complete elimination of immigrant criminals. I am requesting the necessary funding from Congress to ensure border security and remove illegal immigrants from the country."

Noting that the new facility at Guantanamo will be one of the most important steps in these policies, Trump stated, "We will now send illegal immigrant criminals directly to Guantanamo. It will not be easy to get out of there."
