Critical day for YENİ Parti's name: Constitutional Court to review application today

The Constitutional Court (AYM) will take up the application today alleging that the name of YENİ Parti violates the Law on Political Parties. The application requests that the party's name be declared invalid and that it be removed from the political parties registry.

The process began after Yenilik Partisi filed an application on the grounds that there was name similarity with YENİ Parti. Evaluating the application, the Office of the Supreme Court Chief Public Prosecutor granted YENİ Parti a period of time to change its name.

After the deadline granted by the Chief Public Prosecutor's Office expired on September 18, the file was moved to the Constitutional Court. The Constitutional Court General Assembly will discuss the request of the Office of the Supreme Court Chief Public Prosecutor today.

The high court is expected to reach a decision after evaluating the letter from the Office of the Supreme Court Chief Public Prosecutor, the opinion of Yenilik Partisi, and the defense of YENİ Parti. If the Constitutional Court determines a violation, YENİ Parti's name could be declared invalid and a decision could be made to remove it from the registry.

It is stated that YENİ Parti has decided not to change its name until the Constitutional Court announces its decision on the matter.
