Galata Tower to close to visitors
Galata Tower will be closed to visitors for one month starting February 23 due to earthquake reinforcement and exterior facade repair works.
According to the statement made by the Ministry of Culture and Tourism, the 8th floor of the tower was closed to visitors in November 2023 due to roof repair works.
During this process, the conservation of the tower's finial was completed and it was placed back in its position yesterday. Ground-penetrating radar (georadar) studies were conducted on the structure's main walls and foundation.
RESTORATION WORK TO BEGIN
In line with the details identified, the exterior facade of the tower will also be repaired. During the restoration work, nearly 400 migratory bird nests located on the tower's main walls will not be damaged.
All applications will be carried out with consideration for the bird nests and the migration season of the swifts.
