A Mimar Sinan masterpiece: Ayakapı Bathhouse put up for sale for 2 million dollars

The Ayakapı Bathhouse, which occupies a position overlooking the unique view of the Golden Horn, has been left to its fate after becoming private property 67 years ago.

The walls of the Ayakapı Bathhouse in Balat, which was built by Mimar Sinan for Nurbanu Valide Sultan, the wife of Selim II, are now covered with signs and advertisements.

In addition to the bushes, trees, and damage to the roof in the upper section of the bathhouse, a depressing scene catches the eye with the garbage piled up in the lower section.

ENTRANCE BLOCKED WITH SANDBAGS

The main entrance door of the bathhouse has been blocked with sandbags.

The 442-year-old structure was sold following a new zoning plan that came into effect in 1957. The building was used as a lumber warehouse in the 1960s and 1970s.

Its current price has been set at 2 million dollars.
