5.3 magnitude earthquake in the Aegean Sea! Alarming statement from expert
Following the 5.3 magnitude earthquake that occurred in the Aegean Sea, Prof. Dr. Övgün Ahmet Ercan announced on his social media account that a 7.2 magnitude earthquake is expected on the North Anatolian Fault.
The Disaster and Emergency Management Authority (AFAD) announced that a 5.3 magnitude earthquake occurred in the Aegean Sea yesterday evening. The earthquake, which took place at 20:03, was measured at a depth of 6.45 kilometers. Seismologist Prof. Dr. Övgün Ahmet Ercan made assessments on his social media account following the earthquake.
Ercan pointed to the North Anatolian Fault.
Ercan warned that an earthquake reaching a magnitude of 7.2 is expected in this section. The earthquake expert's post is as follows:
"The M5.3 earthquake that occurred on the southern branch of the Chalkidiki peninsula in the Northwest Aegean took place on the North Anatolian Fault. The earthquake expected in this section is M7-M7.2. However, we do not know when."
