The Disaster and Emergency Management Authority (AFAD) has issued a statement on its social media account regarding the 5.8 magnitude earthquake that occurred off the coast of the Marmaris district of Muğla in the Mediterranean.

AFAD used the following expressions in its statement:

“Following the 5.8 magnitude earthquake that occurred off the coast of Marmaris, Muğla, last night at 02:17, efforts by all our relevant institutions are ongoing. The earthquake was felt in our provinces of Muğla, Aydın, Denizli, İzmir, and Manisa.

Immediately after the earthquake, field scanning efforts were initiated by our relevant institutions within the scope of the Turkey Disaster Response Plan (TAMP), and damage assessment studies are continuing in the provinces affected by the earthquake. As of now, there is no destruction in the provinces where the earthquake was felt. AFAD Vice President Mr. Hamza Taşdelen and General Manager of Disaster Response Dr. Sadi Ergin have arrived in the region to support the efforts.

Two damage assessment requests have been received in the İçmeler neighborhood of the Marmaris district in our Muğla province, and teams have been dispatched by the Provincial Directorate of Environment, Urbanization and Climate Change to conduct damage assessments. In the Fethiye district of our Muğla province, one of our citizens lost their life due to a panic attack, and 69 of our citizens were affected by the earthquake due to reasons such as jumping from heights or panic attacks. We wish God's mercy upon our citizen who lost their life and extend our condolences to their family and loved ones.
