Selma Özer, the wife of Esenyurt Mayor Ahmet Özer, recounted the moments when her husband was taken into custody during a police raid on their home to Sözcü columnist Saygı Öztürk. Özer said, "They were moving quickly. When they knocked on the door, I said, 'I don't know who you are, why are you going to break down my door and enter?' Upon that, they showed their IDs through the glass section of my door. I then opened the door."
Selma Özer described the minutes of the detention as follows:
"They rang the garden gate bell towards dawn. I woke up to that. I looked at the image on the intercom, but I couldn't see anything. They were shining a light, but it wasn't a clear image; there were shadows. I couldn't see anyone. When they rang the bell a second time, I went to the kitchen to try and understand who they were. When I couldn't see in the dark, I wanted to call security. However, before I had the chance, they entered the garden and started banging on our iron door.
'Open up or we will break it down,' they were saying. They were moving quickly. When they knocked on the door, I said, 'I don't know who you are, why are you going to break down my door and enter?' Upon that, they showed their IDs through the glass section of my door. I then opened the door.
After the police arrived, my husband woke up. They immediately started searching our house. At the end of the search, they took Ahmet away."
