Breaking News... First contact from Turkey following attack on Israel: Hakan Fidan spoke with his Iranian counterpart!

Tensions in the Middle East have risen following the mutual attacks between Israel and Iran.

While there has been no official statement from Turkey following the tension between the two countries, Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan spoke by phone with his Iranian counterpart, Hossein Amir-Abdollahian.

Fidan conveyed the request for an end to steps that would increase tension.

Diplomatic sources provided the following information regarding the meeting:

"Minister Fidan conveyed that we do not want further escalation in the region following Iran's retaliation against Israel on the night of April 13; he communicated to his counterpart that we desire an end to steps that would increase tension.

Iranian Foreign Minister Abdollahian stated that the retaliatory operation against Israel has ended and that Iran will not engage in a new operation unless it is attacked. Abdollahian stated that if Iran is subjected to a new attack, it will respond even more strongly this time."

According to diplomatic sources, Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan also spoke by phone today with British Foreign Secretary David Cameron. Both ministers emphasized that escalation in the region should not increase further.
