CHP's Tanrıkulu protests: 'These places have been turned into a grotesque identity!'

CHP MP Sezgin Tanrıkulu examined the ongoing restoration work on the Diyarbakır Walls on-site and criticized the current state of progress. Stating that he conducted inspections on the 7th Phase of the restoration in question, Tanrıkulu said, "These places were burned and destroyed 10 years ago. The prime minister of the time had said that this region would become a 'Toledo.' However, not only did that not happen, but it has turned into a grotesque identity of uncertain nature."

According to the report in T24, Tanrıkulu recalled that August 21, 2023, was stated as the start date for the restoration, that the work was aimed to last 400 days, and that it was planned to be completed on September 24, 2024, adding, "Today is January 1, 2025. It is unclear when the restoration will end. There is no movement or work. The delivery date for just one phase was September 24, 2024, but looking at it, they are almost at the beginning of the work. We will follow this situation closely."

Emphasizing that the Diyarbakır Walls and Suriçi still bear the traces of the destruction experienced in the past, Tanrıkulu stated, "Great promises have been made about these places for years. But at the point we have reached, there is no result. They call it restoration on the walls, but it is not clear on what date it will end or what kind of project it is proceeding with."

Tanrıkulu said that a high-quality restoration suitable for the historical texture of the region should be carried out and that they will continue to follow this process closely.
