CHP to take pension decision to the Constitutional Court: 'It is a heartless law'
CHP Chairman Özgür Özel, who participated in the parliamentary vote on the pension regulation, made statements following the decision.
The CHP, which had expressed its opinion that the lowest pension should be 28 thousand liras and had kept watch in parliament until the day of the vote to achieve this, made a statement following the vote held in the assembly.
CHP Chairman Özgür Özel announced that they would take the approved amount of 20 thousand liras to the Constitutional Court.
While announcing that they would take the regulation regarding the increase of the lowest pension to 20 thousand liras to the Constitutional Court, Özel stated that they were ending their parliamentary watch.
Özgür Özel spoke as follows:
"From now on, this struggle is no longer in parliament. The parliamentary phase is over. There is the Constitutional Court phase. We will follow that. But the main struggle from now on is in the streets, in the squares, and everywhere pensioners live. Our group will continue to carry on the struggle for pensioners and workers in the squares and streets; we will definitely take the law to the Constitutional Court.
It is a heartless law that constitutes a violation of almost all articles of the Constitution, from the right to live humanely to the principle of equality, justice, the rule of law, and the right to health. We will definitely take this heartlessness to the Constitutional Court.
If the state determines a minimum wage, and if it penalizes a tradesman for paying someone a salary one thousand liras below the minimum wage, the state cannot pay its own pensioners a salary below the minimum wage."
