Controversial minimum wage statement from MÜSİAD
MÜSİAD President Mahmut Asmalı stated that an increase of over 25 percent in the minimum wage would harm inflation targets, saying, "In my opinion, it is not right."
Turkey is focused on critical negotiations to determine the new minimum wage. While labor unions argue that even a 30 percent increase would be insufficient, employers are taking a more cautious approach. In AKP circles, it is being discussed that the figure could be between 25 and 27 thousand TL.
'AN INCREASE ABOVE 25 PERCENT IS NOT RIGHT'
MÜSİAD President Mahmut Asmalı, in a statement made on Bloomberg HT, argued that an increase of over 25 percent in the minimum wage could harm economic targets. Stating, "In my opinion, a raise exceeding this rate is not right," Asmalı also noted that the business world is uncomfortable with high interest rates.
'WE NEED A NEW GROWTH STORY'
Asmalı emphasized that Turkey should adopt an export-oriented growth model through economic reforms. "The exchange rate should support exports rather than encouraging imports. We must continue production while maintaining our competitive power," he said.
