Davutoğlu responds to claims he will 'return to the AKP': 'I never broke away'
Future Party (Gelecek Partisi) Chairman Ahmet Davutoğlu was a guest on a live KRT TV broadcast. Davutoğlu, whose potential return to his former party, the AKP, has been a subject of curiosity, made significant statements.
Responding to a question on the matter, Davutoğlu said, "I never broke away from the AK Party. If the President calls, I will go."
Evaluating the policies pursued by the government in Syria, Davutoğlu stated, "The opposition's stance on the Syria issue is very wrong," while expressing support for the government.
Davutoğlu's assessment was as follows:
"For 13 years, the entire bill was laid at my door. I knew the Syrian regime would not continue. The opposition's stance on the Syria issue is very wrong.
The government is taking the right steps regarding Syria. The Syrian people are among those who have best internalized Islamic values with modern values. Turkey will see the benefits of the heavy price it has paid.
Those who pose as nationalists based on anti-Arab sentiment are ignorant. I attach importance to Mr. Bahçeli's statements. A unitary state infrastructure must be established in Syria... History will write that Gaza defeated Israel."
