DEM Party responds to Bahçeli's call to Öcalan: 'We are curious too, just like you'

DEM Party responds to Bahçeli's call to Öcalan: 'We are curious too, just like you'

Peoples' Equality and Democracy Party (DEM Party) Co-Chair Tuncer Bakırhan made statements regarding the agenda at his party's group meeting in the Turkish Grand National Assembly (TBMM).

Bakırhan responded to the call made by Nationalist Movement Party (MHP) Chairman Devlet Bahçeli to PKK terrorist organization leader Abdullah Öcalan, in which he said, "Let the terrorist leader, who said 'I am ready for any kind of service' when he was brought to Turkey, come forward and unilaterally declare that terrorism has ended and his organization will be liquidated."

Bakırhan spoke as follows:

"I listened to Mr. Bahçeli's speech today. Mr. Bahçeli made a call to Mr. Öcalan today. But he does not know that for that call to reach its addressees, the isolation imposed on Mr. Öcalan must be lifted. For 43 months, lawyers and family members have not been able to meet with Mr. Öcalan. Mr. Bahçeli, we are also curious about what Mr. Öcalan will say and what call he will make, just like you... Then lift the isolation, and let us see what Mr. Öcalan says to his own organization and his own comrades."

Bakırhan used the expressions, "Can such a call be made in vain to an island where no bird flies, no caravan passes, and not even flying birds pass over for 43 months? Go ahead, we are curious about how Mr. Öcalan responds to the question you asked. Open the doors, let us listen, let us see."

RESPONSE TO SEMİH YALÇIN

Bakırhan also responded to the remarks made by MHP Deputy Chairman Semih Yalçın regarding Bahçeli's handshake with the DEM Party, where he said, "Our Chairman's move is not a concession, a softening, or a normalization step; on the contrary, it is a reminder of who the owners of the norm and the masters of the place are," stating the following:

"The masters of this place are the laborers, the producers, the oppressed, those who lost their lives in Çanakkale, and those who opened the gates at Malazgirt to allow you to enter Anatolia. Before you, there were Pir Sultans, Hacı Bektaşs, and Seyit Rızas in these lands. We are the representatives of that tradition. If there is an owner, it is everyone sitting here. Everyone should pay attention to their language and tone. On one hand, extend your hand, and on the other, wag your finger and threaten... It does not work like that; please review your tone and language."
