Eğitim Sen reacts to Minister Tekin: Religious foundations are being funded

Eğitim Sen responded on social media to Minister of National Education Yusuf Tekin's statement that "nowhere in the world is such a large body of teachers funded by the public."

Eğitim Sen reacted to Minister Tekin, stating, "Nowhere in the world are education workers so discredited by the Minister of National Education himself. Teachers are not funded by the public. They are receiving compensation for the work they do and the labor they provide."

Eğitim Sen quoted Minister Tekin's remarks and provided the following response:

"Nowhere in the world are education workers so discredited by the Minister of National Education himself. We would like to remind Minister of National Education Yusuf Tekin: Teachers are not funded by the public. They are receiving compensation for the work they do and the labor they provide. Moreover, they are working for wages far below the poverty line. If the Minister wants to see who is being funded by public resources, he should look at the religious, reactionary sects and foundations under the guise of projects, private school owners under the guise of incentives, public resources transferred to bridges, airports, and highways with transition guarantees, the tax debts of the 'gang of five' that were wiped out, and the billions allocated for the palace's expenditures."

Minister of National Education Yusuf Tekin spoke yesterday at the AKP's holiday celebration program in Erzurum.

Tekin said, "One out of every 80 people you see on the street is a teacher whose salary is paid by the Ministry of National Education. Look, this is a massive figure. The number of students per teacher has dropped from figures in the 30s and 40s to 13-14 now. These are figures that are truly above world averages. Nowhere in the world is such a large body of teachers funded by the public."
