A fire that broke out in a grassy area at the intersection of the Silivri and Büyükçekmece districts has been extinguished following aerial and ground intervention.

Fire in Silivri Selimpaşa extinguished

According to the information obtained, a fire broke out for an unknown reason in a grassy area in Silivri Selimpaşa at around 15:00. The fire spread over a wide area due to the effect of the wind.

Upon notification, numerous fire crews were dispatched to the region. Aerial support was also provided as the flames moved toward residential areas.

While a firefighting helicopter dumped water taken from Büyükçekmece Lake onto the flames, intervention from the ground continued. The fire, which reduced a shed to ashes, was extinguished before it could spread to a nearby factory. Some firefighters who intervened in the blaze were affected by smoke. The firefighters affected by the smoke were treated in ambulances at the scene.

Making a statement regarding the fire, Büyükçekmece Deputy Mayor Murat Erçağ said, “A fire of unknown origin spread over a very large area due to the effect of the wind. The fire was intervened with by fire crews and our municipality's equipment.

The firefighting operation did not cause any loss of life or property. We thank all our personnel and team members who contributed to the efforts on the field. We know that it is a fire of unknown origin at the moment.

The teams coordinated and intervened very quickly. The fire broke out in an area containing 50 to 100 dönüms of dry grass. There is no loss in the crops either," he said.

Meanwhile, the burned area was captured from the air by drone.
