Foreign Ministry reacts to EU
Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Öncü Keçeli stated, "The European Union's (EU) making biased statements driven by political motives on a sensitive issue with legal and technical dimensions, such as maritime delimitation, does not serve regional peace and stability."
Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Öncü Keçeli, in a post on his social media account regarding the results of the European Union Leaders' Summit, stated, "The conclusions adopted at the European Union (EU) Leaders' Summit held on June 26, 2025, demonstrate that Greece and the GCA continue their efforts to impose their maximalist claims, which are contrary to international law and the principle of equity, upon the EU.
The Memorandum of Understanding concluded between Turkey and Libya in 2019 regarding the delimitation of maritime jurisdiction areas in the Mediterranean is an agreement fully compliant with international law, demonstrating that our country will never allow its legitimate rights and interests to be violated."
In his statement, where he noted that the EU should invite all its members to comply with international law, Keçeli said, "The EU's making biased statements driven by political motives on a sensitive issue with legal and technical dimensions, such as maritime delimitation, does not serve regional peace and stability.
In this regard, instead of adopting claims that have no legal validity, the EU should invite all its members to comply with international law. Turkey will continue to resolutely defend its legitimate rights and interests in the Eastern Mediterranean within the framework of international law."
