The 8th Ordinary Congress of the AKP, which was planned to be held in May, has been moved up to February 23rd by the instruction of AKP Chairman and President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan. AKP sources noted that a three-person team will be formed from within the central executive committee this week to review the party charter.

According to the report by Cumhuriyet, AKP sources emphasizing the 'creation of a unity of discourse' stated that some of the general chair's deputies might change at the grand congress.

On the other hand, it is claimed that Erdoğan will pin party badges on Kürşad Zorlu, who resigned from the IYI Party, and Selma Aliye Kavaf, who left the DEVA Party, at this week's AKP Group Meeting. It is also being discussed in the corridors that Zorlu may be given a "ministry" in the cabinet reshuffle.

In addition to the changes within the AKP, major changes are also expected in the Presidential Cabinet. Accordingly, it is claimed that 5 ministers could be replaced.

It is alleged that Minister of Treasury and Finance Mehmet Şimşek, Minister of Environment, Urbanization and Climate Change Murat Kurum, Minister of Foreign Affairs Hakan Fidan, and Minister of Health Kemal Memişoğlu are among the names likely to be changed.

It was pointed out that there are many complaints from the AKP base regarding Şimşek and Memişoğlu. It is also being discussed in the corridors that Vice President Cevdet Yılmaz could also be replaced.

Claims that former IYI Party leader Meral Akşener will become Vice President are being denied by party staff. The reason cited is that Akşener would cause discomfort within the AKP base.
